The Ethicon SPONGOSTAN™ STANDARD (MS0002) is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable absorbable haemostatic sponge composed of purified porcine gelatin. Designed for adjunctive haemostasis, SPONGOSTAN™ is intended for direct application to bleeding surfaces to assist in the control of capillary, venous and arteriolar haemorrhage when pressure, ligature or other conventional methods are ineffective or impractical.

SPONGOSTAN™ acts as a mechanical matrix that promotes clot formation by providing a scaffold for platelet adhesion. It may be applied dry or saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution, depending on surgical technique and preference.

The material is fully absorbable and gradually resorbed by the body during healing. SPONGOSTAN™ STANDARD is suitable for a wide range of surgical procedures, excluding ophthalmic applications.

Supplied sterile and ready to use directly from the package, product code MS0002 should be stored dry at controlled room temperature (15°–30°C). Intended for professional surgical use only.
